MORE INFO
The name Phēnix is appropriate, since the lens that started this project has truly been reborn after so many of us had given up on it. After years of pursuing the project, the legendary Angenieux / Tokina 28-70mm f2.6 has been successfully rehoused for proper cinema use. To rehouse this lens, as well as make the lens parfocal, was a monumental and difficult task. Many thought it was actually impossible, but Iron Glass succeeded. The lens is parfocal, and its character and performance have been maintained.
The second lens in this family of zooms is the 60-120mm T2.9. It matches the character and performance of the 28-70mm, and is nearly as fast. While slightly larger, it’s still about the size of a typical cinema prime.
We love these lenses because there is nothing else like them, and they pack so much character and performance into such a small package. They are fast, have a great look. and are more flattering, and have more character than modern zooms. These zooms compliment many of our vintage lens sets well, including Canon FD, Minolta, Nikon, Leica R and Olympus.
