This project that has been years in the making, from our friends at Ancient Optics and TLS. These vintage, full frame lenses, are absolute sleepers, and we can’t wait for people to discover them. Originally introduced in 1971 for Fujica SLR 35mm film cameras, they have been off the radar for many of us.

When Ancient Optics introduced us to these lenses, one of the things that stood out, was how their unique character is so consistent across the set. This of course, is a characteristic we expect from cinema lenses, but its less common with still photo lenses. Each lens in the set has excellent center sharpness with gradual fall off in the corners. Slight spherical aberration gives highlights a gentle glow and subtle softness. Flares are colorful and bold, but easily controlled. Bokeh is textured and pleasant across the set.

Fujinon didn’t make a suitable focal length between 50mm and 100mmm, so Ancient Optics worked with TLS to produce a 70mm f2 using Fujinon source glass and proprietary optics, perfectly rounding out the set.

Also worth noting, these lenses have a generous image circle, and they are one of the best options we have for our OFG Customs 65 camera system which has a giant image sensor. The Fuji EBC primes cover from 24mm to 135mm!
