Angenieux’s “HR” (high resolution) zooms are the predecessors to the Optimo zooms. The 25-250mm is an industry workhorse for both film and digital, and is still one of the most compact high-performance 10x Super 35mm cinema zooms out there. It covers an amazing range, has excellent reliable mechanics, and Angenieux’s now legendary image quality, rivaling, and in some ways surpassing prime lenses.

The HR is sharp, high contrast, has low chromatic aberration. The lens produces lovely skin tones, and really nice bokeh character. It’s smooth, never busy, but still has some texture. Due to it’s more modern coatings, the HR’s flare character never overwhelms the image.
