Early in pre-production, cinematographer Greig Fraser, ASC caught wind of the Ultimate Anamorphic Lens Test which we conducted in collaboration with ShareGrid. We were about 3/4 through editing our test videos when Fraser asked if he could look at our test footage. He sat for hours with our editor watching video after video. He was able to narrow down his search for anamorphic lenses to just a few sets thanks to our tests.
At the time we didn’t know what project he was prepping for. It turned out to be VICE. He ended up selecting Todd AO anamorphic primes to shoot one of the film’s time periods, and Cooke i/anamorphic primes for the other. The lens tests helped him save hours and possibly days of preproduction time and money.

The Ultimate Anamorphic Lens Test videos are now part of the growing Lens Library which will soon be up to 40 sets of lenses, all tested in the same controlled environment.
