What might be the first of its kind when it comes to vintage zoom lenses, we are thrilled to introduce our Ancient Optics Angenieux 6X Multi Format Zoom! This lens started out as a vintage Angenieux 20-120mm T2.9, which we have been hoping to rehouse for a long time, due to it’s rotating and telescoping focus group, which makes matte box and follow focus set-ups difficult.

Since this lens was designed for the smaller Academy 35mm Format, it would make the most sense to expand the image circle for Super 35mm or Full Frame sensor coverage as part of the rehousing project. The best of all worlds though, would be to do all 3 formats, right?

So here it is! 1 gorgeous vintage Angenieux zooms in 3  formats: Academy 35mm (black scales), Super 35mm (red scales), and Full Frame (silver scales). Just let us know which format you need and we can set the lens up for you in just a few minutes.

As for the Angenieux lens itself. It is sharp on center for its age even wide open, with softer corners. It's warm in tone, low contrast with blue, magenta, flares. Bokeh is smooth, but with some texture to it. Like all cinema zooms, it’s parfocal, and there is no exposure ramping throughout the zoom range. This lens is one of very few cinema zooms that pairs really well with prime lenses from the 1950s and 1960s, but now with all the benefits of modern mechanical design including internal focus, which the original lens did NOT have!
