You will not find a set of LOMO Anamorphics like this anywhere. They are 100% LOMO anamorphic glass with vintage Cooke Speed Panchro primes as the base spherical lenses. They have similar bokeh, and distortion as traditional LOMO Round Fronts, but they are slightly sharper on the edges, and have a slightly better T stop than the originals. Lens flares have more warm tones than traditional LOMOs. Also, the 50, 75, and 100 have much better sensor coverage than standard LOMOs allowing Open Gate coverage on Alexa 35 and Alexa Mini. Worth noting, all 4 lenses are compatible with film cameras.

All 4 of these LOMOs have been fully rehoused, with internal focus. The 35mm was done by Van Diemen Optics, one of the only internal focus 35s they ever built, and the 50, 75, and 100 were rehoused by a new rehousing company: Axel Film. They all have internal focus, making them extremely matte box and follow focus friendly. Close focus has been improved and these are probably the closest focusing LOMO Anamorphics anywhere - all focusing to about 2.5 feet, which is 15” closer than the original housings! The 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm all have 110mm fronts, and easily work with 4x5 matte boxes. The 35mm has a 162mm front diameter. The wide field of view and giant front element of the 35mm require a 6x6 clip-on matte box and filters.

As for character, they have beautiful, smooth (never busy) bokeh, and pinpoint highlights are rendered as ovals at all T stops due to the optical design and the 18 blade irises. They produce some of the best lens flares of any anamorphic lens. They have very pleasing barrel distortion especially in the wider lenses. Distortion decreases on the longer lenses. The lenses are very flattering on faces, and do not cause mumps (unflattering stretching/widening of faces), which is a problem with LOMO Square Fronts and Kowa Anamorphics.

Their focus design produces minimal lens breathing when pulling focus, lower than pretty much any vintage lenses and less breathing than even modern anamorphic lenses including the new Cooke Anamorphic/i primes. The 75mm and 100mm have almost no breathing, it's minimal in the 50mm and moderate on the 35mm. Also worth noting, all the lenses in the set can be shot wide-open with excellent results, and are quite impressive at T2.8 and T4.

There is a reason VANTAGE FILM chose LOMO Round Front anamorphic lenses as the glass that ended up in the first HAWK C-Series anamoprhics. That's right, the first Hawk lenses were rehoused LOMO Round Fronts. Vantage has good taste, because these Lomos give you the classic anamorphic look, and they are some of the best all-around vintage anamorphic lenses available.

‘I THINK WE’RE ALONE NOW,’ shot by Reed Morano, ASC on LOMO Round Front anamorphics is an excellent example of their distinct character. The trailer for the film is below. She primarily used the 35mm and 50mm.
