We are thrilled to offer Zeiss Super Speeds rehoused by TLS and GL Optics. The TLS housings offer internal focus, 95mm fronts, and we replaced the lenses’ original 7-blade irises with new 16-blade circular irises. We feel this is an improvement over the original. Close focus on the 50mm was improved from 27” down to an impressive 19”, and the 135mm was improved by more than a foot, from 5’ down to 3’ 9”.

This set features the rare and amazing 65mm T1.3 as well as a Zeiss Standard Speed 135mm T2.1 - also rehoused by TLS, with matching gear positions and matching 95mm front, also with a new circular iris. This lens is perfectly color matched to the Super Speeds, and the best option to round out the long end. We feel that this is the best, and most complete set of Zeiss Super Speeds you will find anywhere.

Our GL Optics housings also offer internal focus, but with 110mm fronts. This set also features new 16-blade circular irises, for improved and consistent bokeh when stopped down. We also offer Zeiss Super Speeds in their original MKIII housings.

These rehoused sets will make ACs happy. No more telescoping fronts, and no more wandering focus and iris gears which plagued the original housings. And of course, they are more clip-on matte box friendly, now that they are internal focus. Also, the housings are still quite compact, but the larger 95mm housings allow for better spacing of the witness marks, resulting in more accurate focus.

Zeiss Super Speeds are arguably the most capable and some of the most beautiful vintage lenses available. Their T1.3 maximum aperture is an obvious advantage and puts them in rare company. Whether you are wide-open or stopped down, the images they produce are magic. From the special glass made from rare earth elements that can no longer be used to make lenses, to Zeiss' magic T* coating, these lenses just make people look good. They produce beautiful blue and magenta lens flares, and have minimal focus breathing especially on the wide focal lengths.

Super Speeds cover well beyond Super 35mm, so they are an excellent choice when you need to cover digital sensors that are larger than S35, like Alexa Mini Open Gate, and Alexa 35 Open Gate. The 25mm through 135mm even cover Alexa Mini LF 3.8 UHD 16x9 format which is right in between S35 and full frame. The 50mm nearly covers FF, and the 65mm, 85mm, and 135mm cover FF completely.

From The Shining (1980) to Straight Outta Compton (2015), there is a reason these lenses continue to be the first choice for many DPs. We hope the new housings, and new irises will encourage people to rediscover what are some of the best, most beautiful, and most well rounded cinema lenses ever made.
