MORE INFO

Nippon Scope anamorphic lenses are rare Japanese anamorphic cinema lenses from the 1970s. They have lower contrast, oval bokeh, blooming highlights, and beautiful classic anamorphic flares. The flares are blue and purple streaks with orange accents...truly unique. All 4 lenses deliver a nice amount of barrel distortion, heaviest on the 30mm and 40mm, very subtle on the 85mm. The 40mm and 50mm give a "swirling” bokeh effect. The 30mm, 50mm, and 85mm can be shot wide open, no problem. The 40mm can as well, but for a sharper image and a larger sweet spot stopping down to f2.8 works well.

These lenses are great for shooting close-ups, since their focus design avoids "mumps" (wide, stretched faces). These are some of the smallest, and lightest anamorphic lenses available. The 40mm weighs just 3 pounds and the 50mm and 85mm are each under 4 pounds. Despite their compact size, image quality is excellent.

The lenses have Arma Cine’s “Orbital” systems installed (not pictured), which means they now work with standard clip-on 4x5.65 matt boxes. Originally the lenses’ fronts rotated when focusing, but not anymore. The system adds very little weight, so they are still some of the smallest and lightest anamorphics we have, and now it’s very easy to utilize a matte box, filters, diopters, and follow focus systems.

We recently added the ultra rare, and ultra wide 30mm f2.3 to the set. This is one of the most capable ultra wide anamorphic lenses ever made. It’s sharp wide open, and is still quite small and compact for such a wide lens.
