MORE INFO

The same amazing optical flavor so many filmmakers know and love about Zeiss Super Speeds and Zeiss B Speeds is inherent in the Super 16 version of these now legendary lenses. They are very sharp, even wide open, have medium contrast, excellent close-focus, have beautiful lens flares, and as an added bonus have virtually no focus breathing. These lenses have beautiful character that will help you get the most out of the Super 16 format.

We carry both the MKII and MKIII versions, the main reason being the focus rotation. Both sets have the same optics, same irises, and very similar housings. However the MKII have a shorter 180 degree focus rotation, while the MKIII have a long 330 degree focus rotation. This makes the MKII primes ideal when you are operating and pulling your own focus on the barrel or with a manual follow focus. However, if you are using a wireless follow focus system, or want to have the most precise focus control possible, longer 330 degree focus throw, and larger witness marks, then the MKIII set is ideal.

* Although it’s not a Zeiss, we highly recommend adding the Elite 7mm T1.3 to either of these sets. This gives you an incredibly wide field of view, but due to the fast aperture, you can still achieve shallow depth of field, even in in an ultra-wide lens, even in the Super 16 format. The lens has character and performance that matches the Zeiss Super Speeds well, and even shares their T1.3 maximum aperture. It has a 330 degree focus rotation, same as the MKIII Super Speeds.

NOTE: the 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm Zeiss B-Speeds are an ideal match for either set of S16 Super Speeds if you need additional focal lengths and/or telephoto options. They have the same Zeiss glass, and the same triangular irises.
